♦ Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE & Teflon)
Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a
synthetic fluoropolymer of tetrafluoroethylene that finds numerous
applications. The most well known brand name of PTFE is Teflon by DuPont Co.
PTFE is a fluorocarbon solid, as it is a high-molecular-weight compound
consisting wholly of carbon and fluorine. PTFE is hydrophobic: neither water
nor water-containing substances wet PTFE, as fluorocarbons demonstrate
mitigated London dispersion forces due to the high electronegativity of
fluorine. PTFE has one of the lowest coefficients of friction against any
solid.
Teflon® has been a familiar name for
decades. Invented at DuPont® Jackson Laboratory in 1938, Teflon® is actually
a substance called polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE).
♦ PTFE & Teflon Property
PTFE is as a non-stick coating found
on cookware (again, under the Dupont Teflon® trademark). However, PTFE is
used in the semiconductor, medical, chemical, automotive, electrical,
aerospace, filtration, wire & cable as well as petrochemical industries.
PTFE is detectable at 200 °C (392 °F), and it evolves several fluorocarbon
gases and a sublimate. Animal studies indicate that it is unlikely that
these products would be generated in amounts significant to health at
temperatures below 250 °C (482 °F), although birds are proven to be much
more sensitive to these decomposition products. While PTFE is stable and
nontoxic, it begins to deteriorate after the temperature of cookware reaches
about 260 °C (500 °F), and decomposes above 350 °C (662 °F). These
degradation by-products can be lethal to birds, and can cause flu-like
symptoms in humans. Meat is usually fried between 200 and 230 °C (392 and
446 °F), and most oils will start to smoke before a temperature of 260 °C is
reached, but there are at least two cooking oils (refined safflower oil and
avocado oil) that have a higher smoke point than 260 °C. Empty cookware can
also exceed this temperature upon heating.
♦ Autai PTFE & Teflon
JiuJiang AuTai Rubber and Plastic
Co.,Ltd is In China, we are one of the professional manufacturers of
researching, developing, manufacturing and marketing, High quality many

PTFE Rod is available in
both virgin grades and reprocessed for less demanding applications. Surf
Technologies Teflon rods in all standard sizes from 2mm diameter up to 400mm
in diameter. There are two types of PTFE rod. The rod with diameter of 1—4mm
is made by paste extrusion of dispersion polymerized PTFE resin; There are
two kinds of PTFE rods to offer. One is made by ram extruding method is the
diameter form 5~200mm;rods over the diameter 20~400mm are manufactured by
moulding.
PTFE Sheet can be made
in any thickness from 0.2mm up to 100mm. PTFE resin is first moulded into
work-blank and then skived. The PTFE resin skived sheet&tape are highly
dielectric.Chemical resistant and not aging. They have a wide tange of
operation temperature. Polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE) membrane have tensile
strength good, fine characteristics, such as viscidity, etc. high,
insulating. PTFE molded sheet is manufactured by molding with PTFE granular
resin.PTFE is the most chemical resistance of all know plastics. It does not
age.It has the lowest coefficient of friction of all know solid materials.
PTFE Tubing is a
leader in the manufacture of heavy walled tube, both in standard sizes. PTFE
pipe is made by plunger extrusion of suspension polymerized PTFE resin.
Among all the existing plastics, PTFE has the best corrosion-resistance and
dielectricity. the Teflon tube is used in fluid handling applications for
high temperature acids and caustics or where contamination is an issue, such
as in wire braided hose. In applications where PTFE 's excellent insulating
properties are needed heavy walled tube is the shape of choice, e.g. in
spark plugs for stationary generators, coaxial spacers, connectors. Because
drilling a precise hole in longer PTFE ( Teflon ) lengths is impossible,
extruded tube is the best way to insure uniform wall thickness throughout
the length of the tube. Various fillers are available to modify the
properties of PTFE ( Teflon ) to meet application requirements.
